- Quick Video on How to Install Window Well Locks
Do you have window wells on your home? If so you may want to consider installing window well locks and I’ve shot a quick video to show you how! These locks will deter burglars who love to use window wells to get in, yet they are easy to release from the inside so you can get out in case of a fire.I needed to install them on our home so I shot a quick video to share with other families who may not have them yet. Why not spend a few bucks on a solution that is a great deterrent? Stapleton, where we live, is mostly 2 story homes, similar to other Denver areas, so if a burgular comes in the basement it would be difficult to hear from the 2nd story where we sleep. This window well lock solution doesn’t replace the need for a security system but its a good compliment to one. Note that even new homes don’t typically come with these locks so you’ll need to install them yourself.
As my wife would attest, I’m not a handy man when it comes to home improvement projects. So the fact that I did 3 of them easily without issue tells me anyone could do it. So don’t be intimidated, it’s simple.
I purchased the Adjust – A – Grate SK9 Security Kit at Home Depot for $50. It requires no special tools. I noticed that some employees weren’t aware of them so just ask where the window wells are and they’ll be in that same section. You may want to measure your grate and how deep your window well is before you go, there are a few different sizes.
Below is the video, I hope you find it helpful and please be sure to share it with as many friends as possible so they can add them to their homes as well.

- Denver’s 2nd Annual Daddy Daughter Dance Coming May 18th!
I was recently invited to the second annual Denver Daddy Daughter Dance by a friend and I wanted to share it with other Stapleton dads with daughters who may want to join in. I wasn’t aware of it last year so this will be my first time attending but from the looks of it my two young daughters will love it. A chance for them to get dressed up and dance….they’re always up for that even if it’s just around our house! I’ve heard about these types of dances before and how great they are for strengthening bonds between dads and their daughters. I’m not always great at it but I’m sure time invested with daughters early will pay off down the road in a good relationship. The event is organized in part by Stapleton resident Chyrsan McCoin. The event is Saturday May 18th from 6 – 10PM. Click here for more details about the event, location, pics from last year and a chance to register!
Hope to see you there! All are welcome so please forward this on to anyone you know who may be interested, inside or outside of Stapleton.

- GET INVOLVED WITH ‘THE URBAN FARM’ AT STAPLETON
Looking for a good cause to support right here in our Stapleton community? Check out “The Urban Farm”! Located at 10200 Smith Rd, it’s part of Stapleton that isn’t traveled much or well known. (Basically it’s just to the West of the intersection of Smith Rd and Havana Rd) The Urban Farm’s mission is to to teach agricultural and environmental education to urban children, youth and their families. They provide a rural experience to urban kids who otherwise would only experience life in the city. Click here to check out The Urban Farm’s website, where they go into detail about what they do and why they exist, as well as the many ways that people can donate or help out.In addition to helping urban kids a few other things that caught my eye were the public hours the Urban Farm has almost every Saturday where you can take your kids to check out the animals and experience farm life as well as the fact that they offer community garden plots each year. If you want a space to garden but don’t have size on your lot this may be a way to do it. Check out their site (link above) for information on how to sign up for plots.
I’m hoping to shoot a video with The Urban Farm soon to provide more insight into what they do and how people can jump in.

- KNOW A GOOD CAUSE IN STAPLETON THAT NEEDS SUPPORT?
Currently there are no posts about good causes that need support in Stapleton. I”m sure they are out there, I’m just not personally aware of any right at this moment. Stapleton residents are always up to helping others so if you know of a good event coming up or a family in need around the holiday season please let me know and I’ll be happy to post about it here. No cause is too big or too small, it just needs to relate to Stapleton or the immediately surrounding areas.Joe Phillips – Synergy Real Estate Team – (720) 545-9003 – joe@synergyret.com
